Split a Clip on the Timeline

Make a split to divide one clip into two. The pieces function like two separate clips. You can move and edit each of the two clips. Split clips to insert transitions or graphics between scenes. Use the Split tool when you do not want to cut or trim any of the clip.

You cannot split callouts and transitions.
To make a split on the Timeline
  1. Lock the tracks on the Timeline that contain clips or elements you do not want to split. See Lock a Track on the Timeline.
  2. Position the seek bar at the point on the Timeline where you want to make the split.
  3. Click Split . The clip splits into two separate clips.
Use caution when editing and arranging the two split clips on the Timeline. Both clips have the same name.
