Analysing files

The T-Windows allow you to analyse one or more files. This compares the file(s) with the current translation memory and calculates the number of matches between the document(s) and the translation memory.

Note: You cannot analyse files with T-Window for Clipboard.

Warning: To get the correct analysis results you may need to adjust the segmentation rules in Translator's Workbench for T-Window.

To Analyse Files:

  1. Make sure that Translator's Workbench is running. If it is not, the Analyse option is greyed out.

  2. Select Analyse from the Tools menu. The Analyse Files dialog box opens.

  3. Click Add to add files to the File(s) to Analyse list. The Add Files dialog box opens.

  4. Locate the file you want to analyse and click Open to add it to the File(s) to Analyse list.

  5. Repeat steps 2-4 for every file that you want to add to the list.

  6. Select the name of the log file where Translator's Workbench saves the statistical information. Translator's Workbench creates two log files, one in text format with a *.log extension, one in comma-separated form with a *.csv extension. They have the same file name as the current translation memory. For example, the logs for the demonstration translation memory Demo.tmw are written to files called Demo.log and Demo.csv. The CSV format can be directly imported into spreadsheet applications such as Microsoft Excel and presents the analysis results in a tabular form. This makes it easier for you to process the analysis results for budgeting and similar purposes. By default, the log files are located in the program directory of the T-Window Collection. However, you can change the path and file name for the analysis by clicking the Browse Log File button.  For more information, see the Translation Guide or Translator's Workbench help.

  7. If you are using T-Window for Resources, there are two extra options in the Include box.

  8. Check the Comments check box if you wish comments to be treated as translatable text during analysis. If you do not check Comments, comments are treated as untranslatable text.

  9. Check the Combo and list box items  check box if you wish the text in these to be treated as translatable text during analysis. This is selected by default. If you deselect this, these resources are treated as untranslatable text.

  1. Click Analyse to start the analysis. If you are using T-Window for Excel, the Specify Range dialog box appears. You can select which parts of the workbook you wish to analyse. You can process the whole workbook or specific worksheets and all or specific rows and columns.

  2. Translator's Workbench displays its progress on two progress indicators, one for the current file and the other for the total number of files.

  3. After analysis, the analysis results appear.
