Dragging and dropping

Virtual PC allows you to drag and drop files and folders from the host PC desktop to a guest PC running Windows, and vice versa.

Note: Virtual PC does not support drag and drop to or from a network volume.

Moving items from host to guest

To drag a file or folder from the host to the guest:

  1. Click and hold on the host file or folder.
  2. Drag to a location on the guest, and release.

You may drag either to the guest PC desktop, or to a volume or folder on the guest PC.

Note: Drag and drop duplicates the data onto the destination machine, just as it would when dragging from one volume to another on the same PC.

  3. If desired, delete the source copy of the file or folder.

Note: When using the right mouse button to drag and drop, Virtual PC supports only the copy feature. It does not support move or cancel during drag and drop.

Moving items from guest to host

To drag a file or folder from the guest to the host:

  1. Click and hold on the guest file or folder.
  2. Drag to a location on the host, and release.

You may drag either to the host PC desktop, or to a volume or folder on the host PC.

Note: Drag and drop duplicates the data onto the destination machine, just as it would when dragging from one volume to another on the same PC.

  3. If desired, delete the source copy of the file or folder.

Note: When using the right mouse button to drag and drop, Virtual PC supports dragging only within the guest PC window. It does not support dragging outside of the guest PC window.

Moving items from guest to guest

Virtual PC supports dragging and dropping directly from one guest PC to another.

To drag a file or folder from one guest to another:

  1. Click and hold on the guest file or folder.
  2. Drag the file or folder from the source guest PC to the destination guest PC.

As an alternative to drag and drop, you can use folder sharing to transfer data from one PC to another. See: Folder sharing.
