Floppy disk images

Some Windows programs require that you insert a floppy disk into drive A, either while installing or using the program. Although you may be able to accomplish this with a physical floppy, there are some situations where a floppy image is necessary.

For example, suppose you want to install Quark XPress on a notebook computer. Quark XPress requires a floppy disk that works together with the installer CD-ROM. If the notebook computer does not have a floppy drive, a floppy image can be used instead.

To create a new floppy image:

  1. Bring the Virtual PC window to the front.
  2. On the File menu, click Virtual Disk Wizard.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Select Create new floppy or hard disk image.
  5. Follow the instructions presented.

To duplicate an existing floppy image:

  1. Make sure that the floppy image is not in use by a guest PC.
  2. Use the host PC operating system to duplicate the floppy image.

For information on capturing and releasing a floppy or floppy image, see Removable Devices.
