Using a parallel port printer

Printing to a parallel printer provides fast, high quality output. In order to use this method, the printer must be attached to the host PC parallel port, and then be captured by the guest PC. This method is one of two printing methods provided by Virtual PC.

For information about the other method, see: Using a Windows Networked Printer.

Accessing a parallel port printer

To capture a parallel port printer:

  1. Bring the Virtual PC window to the front, and select the guest PC.

If the guest PC is running, shut it down. If another guest PC has captured the parallel port, you must shut down that PC as well.

  2. In the Virtual PC window, click Settings.
  3. Click the LPT1 setting.
  4. Click the Host parallel port option.
  5. Select the port to which the printer is attached.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Restart the guest PC.
