Using the Files by Folder (Explorer Style) View

This view displays your Zip file structure showing folder information (if it exists) as well as files. You can now see the actual structure of your Zip file with regard to which files are contained within which folder. This is helpful as a visual representation of the Zip file structure. You can navigate into folders and see the files. You can create new folders within the Zip file and then add new files to that folder.

Note: Files by Folder (Explorer Style) View is the only way to access the thumbnail view of image files.

To change to the Explorer Style view from the WinZip style view, click Files by Folder (Explorer Style) from the WinZip® View menu. Note: you can quickly switch between these views with the View Style button found on the toolbar.

In the Files by Folder view you will notice an "Address" bar along with various icons:

The "Address" bar allows you to quickly type in the path to the file that you are looking for and click the "Go to" button, or press Enter, rather than navigating through the various folders in your Zip file.

"Go to" is used to navigate you to the address currently displayed in the "Address bar".

"Up one level" is used to navigate back one folder level from your current position in the Zip file.

"Folders" is a toggle button used to move between an Explorer Style and My Computer style view.

"Change the item display style" allows you to change the List view display to the show the amount of file/folder detail you want to see.

"Create a folder" allows you to create a new folder at your current location in the Zip file.

Adding the Folders pane adds an additional panel to the WinZip Window. You will notice that folders are displayed in the left or Folders pane and files and folders are displayed in the right or List View pane. This option gives the added notation that subfolders are contained within the folders. You can quickly see if a folder contains a subfolder because, as in Windows Explorer, there is a folder expansion icon next to each folder containing a subfolder.

Using Drag and Drop

Adding files or folders to an existing folder in a Zip file

Open the intended Zip file then navigate to and open the folder into which you wish to add. Now drag the files or folders you wish to add into this open folder. Note: you cannot drop files or folders into the Folders pane. The Folders pane is only for navigation.

Extracting folders from a Zip file

Open the Zip file that contains the folder you wish to extract, navigate to the level in which you see the desired folder (in the right pane, if you are using the two-pane variation of this view), drag and drop the folder to the desired location (such as a folder in My Computer or Windows Explorer, the Desktop, or My Documents).

Note: files dragged and dropped from a Zip file are first extracted to the Windows temporary folder and then copied to the selected location. It is more efficient to extract a folder using the Extract dialog when the folder being extracted contains a large number of files.
