Test Options

This dialog allows you to view and specify Complete Test and Selected Areas Test parameters.

Test name and description

The test name defined in the Name text field is not modifiable; however, you can enter a test Description (a brief note for your own use).

Scanning parameters

Scan files without interruption - the test will run without interruption until completed; the test will not pause to inform you of the detection of viruses. Removal, if required, can be performed after the test is completed. If the checkbox is not selected, and a virus is detected, a dialog will appear asking what action to take and the scan will resume after you respond to the dialog, or after the dialog timeout (usually 30 seconds).

Automatically heal infected files - infected files will (if possible) be healed immediately after the test is completed. Of course, it is also possible to heal infected files later from within the Test Result dialog window.

Scanning properties

Scan system areas before the test starts - run the System Areas Test before this test.

Detect Potentially Unwanted Programs (possible spyware) - not available in the AVG Free Edition.

Use Heuristic Analysis - specify whether the Heuristic Analysis detection method (dynamic emulation of the scanned objects instructions in a virtual computer environment) should be used during scanning.

Scan inside archives - specify whether archived files (such as ZIP, ARJ, RAR) should be scanned.

Files extensions

Scan all files - all files will be scanned during the test, regardless of the file type or infectability.

Scan all infectable files - only potentially infectable files will be scanned during the test. Further, you can check the Add extensions box to enable the adding of custom extensions. Fill in the text field - separating with semi-colons (;), or click the Select… button to select from the list of extensions registered in the Windows operating system.
