NOTE: This section is intended to help Web designers and system integrators with the implementation of customized DjVu viewing capabilities. Some basic understanding of network systems is assumed.
The DjVu Browser Plug-in takes full advantage of the high compression and efficiency of the DjVu file format to give users an outstanding viewing and navigation experience.
The DjVu Browser Plug-in is in fact an ActiveX control, which is marked as "safe for scripting." This means that it can be used as part of customized Internet Explorer-based Web Applications. Features such as printing, ability to zoom in and out, display of thumbnails, etc., can be controlled dynamically from within the Web page itself. Additionally, the ActiveX scripting capabilities embedded in the DjVu Browser Plug-in are expansive. Developing Visual C++ or Visual Basic applications providing customized DjVu viewing is easy and straightforward. When combined with the existing abilities to embed DjVu files in Web pages and to control the viewing through CGI-bin-type arguments, this puts the DjVu viewing experience fully under the control of designers and system integrators.
The Windows version of the DjVu Browser Plug-in is Section 508 compliant and also includes viewing support for PDF bookmarks encoded with the PDF-to-DjVu Converter.
