Convert Excel File to MultiTerm 5 Import Format

You can use T-Window for Excel to convert terminology lists in Excel files to MultiTerm 5 import format.

Translator's Workbench must be running to perform this task.

T-Window for Excel needs the code page information provided by the source language that is defined in the translation memory. This enables T-Window to convert not only western languages but also non-western (such as Cyrillic, bi-directional or DBCS) languages that are contained in an Excel glossary.

If your Excel glossary contains only western languages, you should create or open a translation memory in Translator's Workbench that has a western language as the source language.

If your Excel glossary contains a non-western language, you should create or open a translation memory in Translator's Workbench that has the respective non-western language as the source language.

Follow the steps described below to convert your glossary to MultiTerm 5 import format.

To convert your files:

  1. Select Convert Excel File to MultiTerm 5 Import Format from the Tools menu.

  2. The Convert Excel File to MultiTerm 5 Import Format dialog box appears.

  3. Enter the source Excel *.xls file or click the Browse button to find it. The target file name has the same as the source file but with a *.txt extension and is stored in the source file directory. The path and the filename can be edited.

  4. Click Load Source to load the file.

  5. Select the Worksheet you want to convert and specify the row or column that contains the index header.

  6. Click View Source to start Excel and view the file.

  7. Click Convert. A progress indicator displays the progress of the conversion process. After the conversion is finished, an information dialog box appears to tell you that the file has been converted and the number of entries that have been created. Click OK to return to the Convert Excel File to MultiTerm 5 Import Format dialog box and click Close to return to the T-Window for Excel window.

  8. Open MultiTerm 5 and import the created MultiTerm import file using the Import command in MultiTerm. For more information, see the MultiTerm 5 User Guide.
