Using the WinZip Internal Image Viewer
You will use the WinZip® Internal Image Viewer to view and modify images residing in a Zip file.
To view images using the WinZip Internal Image Viewer
There are several ways to display images from your Zip file using the Internal Image Viewer:
- Double click on an image filename listed in the main WinZip window. See the
Associated Image Viewer options in the System
tab of the Configuration Dialog Box for more information on image viewer selection.
- Select one or more images listed in the main WinZip window, click the
View button, then click the Internal Image Viewer
option.
- Select one or more images listed in the main WinZip window, right button click a selected
item, then click the View with Internal Image Viewer context menu option.
When a single image is double-clicked or selected, all images in the current folder can be viewed.
When two or more images are selected, only the selected images can be viewed.
Image Viewer Features
The Image Viewer provides a toolbar containing buttons used to perform the following:
- Browse images - click the Previous Image button to display the previous image.
Click the Next Image button to display the next image.
- Set the image display mode - Click the Best Fit button to display the entire
image within the Image Viewer window. No scrollbars are displayed. Click the Actual Size
button to display an image in its actual size. If the image is too large to fit in the Image
Viewer window, scrollbars are displayed, enabling you to scroll up, down, left and right within
the image.
- Start a Slide show - click the Start Slide Show button to begin the slide show. The Image
Viewer displays your images using the entire screen. Your images are displayed sequentially with a five second
pause between slides. You can press the Up Arrow key, the Left Arrow key or the Page Up key to immediately move
to the previous image.. Press the Down Arrow key, the Right Arrow key or the Page Down key to move immediately
to the next image. After five seconds, the slide show automatically resumes. Press the Escape key or the F11
key to stop the slide show.
- Zoom In - click the Zoom In button to enlarge an image for viewing only. The image
is not resized.
- Zoom Out - click the Zoom Out button to shrink an image for viewing only. The image
is not resized.
- Rotate an image - click the Rotate Clockwise button to rotate an image 90 degrees
clockwise or click the Rotate Counterclockwise button to rotate an image 90 degrees counterclockwise.
Your rotated image can be saved back to your Zip file. See the Saving Your Changes section below for
more information on how to save the change(s) you have made to your images.
- Display Image Viewer help - click the Help button to display this Help topic.
Each toolbar button provides one or more keyboard alternatives to initiate an action:
- Previous Image: Up Arrow, Left Arrow and Page Up
- Next Image: Down Arrow, Right Arrow and Page Down
- Best Fit: Ctrl + B
- Actual Size: Ctrl + A
- Start Slide Show: F11
- Zoom In: + (plus)
- Zoom Out: - (minus)

Saving Your Changes
You can elect to save the changes you have made to your image. Simply navigate to the previous image or
to the next image or exit the Image Viewer. WinZip will display the Save Image Changes dialog.
To overlay the image stored in the Zip file, retain the image's original file name. Or, provide a new file
name to be assigned to the modified image. If you elect to provide a new name, the image file name must be
unique; the image is added to the Zip file in the same folder as the original image.
Considerations for Encrypted Images
All modified images are written back to the Zip file unencrypted. To re-encrypt your modified
image(s), use the WinZip Action/Encrypt feature.
